Nimy Resources and Curtin University Launch MPhil Scholarship to Advance Gallium Processing Research

Applications now open for Australia’s next generation of critical minerals researchers.

Nimy Resources Ltd (ASX: NIM), in partnership with Curtin University and the Resources Technology and Critical Minerals Trailblazer program, is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the 2026 Nimy-Trailblazer MPhil Scholarship in Gallium Processing. The scholarship provides an exciting opportunity for an outstanding postgraduate researcher to contribute to the development of innovative gallium extraction technologies that will help strengthen Australia’s critical minerals capability.

The successful candidate will undertake a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) at Curtin University’s renowned Western Australian School of Mines (WASM) in Kalgoorlie, working alongside leading researchers and industry specialists to develop technically and economically viable processing pathways for gallium-bearing ores.

The research will focus on mineral characterisation, beneficiation and hydrometallurgical extraction, supporting the development of novel metallurgical processes that could unlock greater value from Australia’s gallium resources. The project forms part of a collaborative critical minerals research initiative supported by Nimy Resources and the Resources Technology and Critical Minerals Trailblazer program.

The scholarship reflects Nimy’s ongoing commitment to advancing downstream processing expertise in Australia while investing in the next generation of metallurgical professionals. As demand for gallium continues to accelerate through semiconductor manufacturing, artificial intelligence, advanced electronics and defence technologies, developing sovereign processing capability has become increasingly important.

The successful applicant will receive a living stipend of AUD$40,000 per annum and will be based full-time at Curtin University’s Kalgoorlie campus for the duration of the research project. Applications are open to both Australian and international students who meet Curtin University’s MPhil admission requirements and have qualifications in metallurgical engineering, metallurgy, chemical engineering, chemistry or related disciplines.

Applications Now Open

Applications open 26 June 2026 and close 26 July 2026.
Interested applicants should submit an Expression of Interest including:

  • Current curriculum vitae (CV)
  • Academic transcripts
  • A cover letter outlining their interest and suitability for the project
  • Contact details for at least two academic referees

Expressions of Interest should be submitted to Dr Jonah Gamutan from Curtin University’s Western Australian School of Mines.

As Nimy continues to advance the development of its high-grade gallium resource at the Mons Project in Western Australia, collaborations such as this play an important role in building the technical expertise and innovative processing solutions needed to support Australia’s future critical minerals industry.
